About ClairHouse and Elphinstone

Peter and Abigail Dyson purchased the Elphinstone property, Clair House, nearly fourteen years ago. They wanted a change from the confines of city life where Abigail could put her hands into the dirt and Peter could spend weekends ‘building things’.

They looked for areas that had a small community feel but were still an easy commute to Melbourne and the airport. They settled on central Victoria as their ideal choice.

Elphinstone is a wonderful hamlet located on the intersection of the Calder Freeway and Pyrenees Highway placing it within easy commute of Castlemaine, Kyneton, Bendigo and importantly Melbourne as Peter still worked in the CBD. The town boasts a Hotel that serves meals, a Post Office/General store, Primary School plus many sporting arenas and yet maintains its small country town feel.

Formerly known as ‘Sawpit Gully’ the town was established in the 1800’s to service the near-by goldfields and in more recent times had become the ‘first stop’ for Melbourne based clubs and groups who take leisurely weekend tours of the famous Pyrenees, wine and goldfields. Thus the property also lends itself to potential owners who are looking to operate as a B&B, function centre or cottage farming. Planning approval has already been granted for these!

The annual Elphinstone food and wine festival held within the picturesque public gardens is a popular Victorian event and boast produces from nationally recognised local businesses such as ‘Pud for All Seasons’, ‘Mount Alexandra’ wineries and Olive Branch Preserves to name a few.
