Peter and Abigail had been looking for a property in the area for over 9mths without success, when suddenly Abigail spotted what was to become ‘Clair House’ in a real-estate agents window. That day they already had five properties on their list to view but Abigail insisted that this ‘was the one’! The agent added it to viewing list for later that day.
The first impression of the property was driving down the beautiful tree-lined driveway and viewing at its end an ‘old style’ country farm house with sweeping verandas surrounded by (albeit neglected) gardens. Peter took a deep breath as he knew that Abigail would probably love it and that would create a challenge if he did not. As they pulled in to the parking area, the canny real-estate agent must have sensed Peter’s dilemma as he immediately suggested that he show Peter the outbuildings first whilst the owners took Abigail on a tour of the house.
What unfolded was a man’s paradise, numerous sheds, workshops, farm tools and gadgets abound, complete with a tractor, slasher, pumps and electric fences. Peter was in heaven and remarked to the real estate agent, ‘Christ I hope Abigail likes the house’!! Fortunately she did and what was to be later Clair House’ was acquired and began its new life as a ‘weekender’ and place of escape. This part time use though only lasted a couple of years before the lure of the property ensured their eventual permanent move from the city.
